Monday, Feb. 25 (section 3)

Agenda:

Three poems were reviewed: Continuum, the Hunting Snake and Pike. The study of Pike will continue next class.

Homework:

1. All three worksheets of the above poems will be turned in.
2. Write your version of A Birthday, by Christina Rosetti. The following template:

First stanza:
My love is like <insert naturally occurring symbol of a>;
My love is like <insert naturally occurring symbol of a>;
My love is like <insert naturally occurring symbol of a>;
My heart is <a> than all of these
Because my <b> has come to me.

Second stanza:
Directive + image of decorum to supplement <a>;
Directive + image of decorum to supplement <a>;
Directive + image of decorum to supplement <a>;
Because the <c> of my life
Is come, my  <b> has come to me.

Example:

     My love is like a well fed babe
          nestled 'gainst a swollen breast;
     My love is like the speckled sand
          meeting water shore to shore;
     My love is like the swelling blur
          above the heat and before recompense;
     My heart's cup run over more than all of these
          Because my love has come to me.

     Chisel rocks into light-shifting shapes,
         and toss them at the feet of more;
     Mill cloth with silk and vermillion dye,
          and drape it across a binding scroll;
     Simmer sauces of wine and rare design,
           to dash tender and succulent against the teeth.
     Because the genesis of my life
          Is come, love has come to me.
